You Luddite Up My Life

There is a rebellion against over-teched living spaces. Because let’s be real—does anyone really need a separate app just to close the blinds, heat the pool, or turn on the oven? We’re drowning in screens, notifications, and a million “smart” things. Is it time to reclaim our homes, simplify, and rediscover the beauty of intuitive design where a switch is a switch and shades can be closed with (gasp) actual hands? This month, we’re cutting the tech clutter and embracing the joy of just living—no Wi-Fi required.

SMART PEOPLE WANT DUMB HOUSES

The Dawn of the Dumb House in Town & Country highlights a rising trend of simplifying homes by reducing reliance on smart technology. Popular even in Silicon Valley, this movement favors manual controls and timeless design over frequent tech upgrades. As they move away from the ever-connected digital world, homeowners seek spaces that feel like sanctuaries, promoting a deeper connection to their environment without sacrificing luxury.

A CHILLING STORY

A teenager in the UK had her phone confiscated by her parents, but she was not about to let that stop her from tweeting. After exhausting every device (yes, even her Wii), she turned to the last resort: the family’s smart fridge. In a stroke of pure genius, she managed to send a tweet: “I’m talking to you from my fridge. What the heck. My mom confiscated all my electronics again.”

The tweet, marked “via LG Smart Refrigerator,” went viral, turning the fridge into an unlikely ally in the war against parental control. Forget cooling groceries—this fridge kept her Twitter game fresh!

WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE

In 2017, a six-year-old girl from Dallas innocently asked Alexa for a dollhouse. And because Alexa listens to serve, she promptly ordered a $170 dollhouse—and some cookies, because why not? The kicker? A news station covering the story said, “Alexa, order a dollhouse,” during their broadcast, and it triggered more people’s Alexas at home to start placing orders, too! Cue hundreds of accidental purchases. Talk about a retail revolution!  Here is a not-so-subtle film recommendation.

ON THE BOARDS

This month, we’re thrilled to highlight an exciting new project we’ve been busy working on – a custom, new home that is soon to be built in Arlington, VA. With indoor and outdoor living spaces spread over four floors and 6,000 square feet, this custom home is being thoughtfully designed to accommodate both everyday living and special gatherings

Entertainment spaces are plentiful, with a dedicated home theater, a game room with a wet bar, and multiple cozy living and lounge areas, several of which seamlessly connect to outdoor living areas. For fitness enthusiasts, the home gym is fully equipped with a rower, treadmill, weights, and a punching bag.

The heart of this home – and our current focus – is the spacious and open kitchen situated in the center of the main floor. The kitchen includes integrated chef-level appliances, a wet bar, a large island, and a cozy built-in banquette dining area.

We’re excited to see this special project come to life – stay tuned for more design updates!

Forestis, perched in the Dolomites, is a serene retreat that strips life down to its simplest, most tranquil elements. This alpine escape encourages disconnection from technology, offering a sanctuary where nature reigns. With minimalist design and natural materials, Forestis fosters calm and balance, allowing the mountains, fresh air, and forests to become the true luxuries. Immersing guests in unspoiled and quiet landscapes provides a rare chance to recharge without digital distractions.
