About this project
When the clients first walked through this Spring Valley home, it was a beautiful new canvas, custom built by Dilan Homes—floor-to-ceiling windows that brought the surrounding trees right into the rooms, new hardwood floors, and a new kitchen are just some of the highlights. They were moving from nearby, but they weren’t looking for more of the same. They wanted something that felt like a reset: more modern, more edited, and personal enough to feel like theirs from the first day.
The art collection was the natural starting point. Rather than design around it in the conventional sense, we designed beneath it—a largely monochromatic palette that gave the artwork room to breathe, with window treatments minimized wherever possible so the light and the trees remained part of the experience. Throughout the 6,500 square feet, the approach was consistent: fewer pieces, better pieces. Custom rugs in soft tonal colors to ground the rooms, furniture chosen for craftsmanship and longevity rather than flash and sizzle.
The primary bedroom pairs an Italian leather bed with custom walnut nightstands, handmade brass lighting from Allied Maker, and drapery chosen for the quality of light it creates rather than any decorative ambition. The two home offices share the same quiet confidence but diverge in character—hers brings a traditional rug against clean modern lines, his is anchored by a custom walnut desk and a single artwork that owns the room.
What the clients wanted was a home that reflected how they actually live—with a young child, a serious art collection, and an appreciation for quality. And here is it.
